Broken Links

Am I really going to write a page of information about why broken links are bad?

No.

I'm going to tell you that we have tools to automatically check your site for broken links and provide a report. I'm going to point out that if your site links to other third party websites even if you don't make any changes your site could get broken links.

PLUS - I'm going to mention customized 404 pages. They sound complex but they are simple and great. If anyone goes to a page on your site that doesn't exist perhaps a typo or perhaps an old bookmark or link, normally they will see a page that says something like.

• The Page Cannot be Found

The error code when this page is displayed is 404 and a custom 404 page means instead of showing them an error message you show something friendly. Try this link:
